In addition to districts and individual properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places, Missouri is rich in locally designated historic districts. Some of the historic districts in Kansas City and St. Louis have been certified by the U.S. Department of the Interior as substantially meeting National Register criteria.
For your convenience, maps of the districts will be posted to this page as they become available.
Some of these maps do not indicate whether or not particular buildings were determined to contribute to the district when the district was certified. The maps that do provide this indication do so based on the material provided to the SHPO and the National Park Service for certification during the 1970s-80s and therefore indicate the status of each building as determined when the map was drawn. By the same token, it is also possible that a building that was formerly concealed under a modern skin has lost the skin and is now a certified historic structure.
