at Pomme de Terre State Park
Yurts
Pomme de Terre State Park offers you an alternative camping experience without having to bring your own tent. A yurt is a circular structure with a fabric cover, much like a tent, and a wooden frame making it strong and weathertight. It sits on a wooden platform with decking and has a locking door. There are three large windows to enjoy the view and a dome skylight.
The yurts are located in the Loop 400 in the Pittsburg area of the park. Each yurt features a log futon, log futon bunk bed, a dorm-size refrigerator, coffee table, lamp, air conditioner and heater. The unit sleeps five with a maximum occupancy of six. Tents or other alternate lodging accommodations are not allowed in the rental areas.
To prepare for your yurt experience, bring your camping gear such as lanterns, cooking and eating utensils and water containers. The yurts do not have running water, so plan accordingly. Guests must bring their own linens and sleeping bags. Open-flame cooking is not allowed in the unit. Cooking with griddles, Crock-Pots and other non-flame cooking devices is allowed. Smoking is not allowed inside the unit.
As part of the Cabins for Canines Program, guests renting Yurt B or Yurt C are allowed to bring up to two dogs. Detailed information on associated fees and rules can be found through the "Cabins for Canines" link on the right. Cleanup and trash removal is the responsibility of the lodging guests and should be completed before checkout.
A picnic table and a fire ring and grill for barbecuing or campfires are located outside the unit. A modern central restroom and showerhouse in Loop 400 is available during the camping season (April 1 to Oct. 31). During the camping off-season, a vault toilet and water are available.
The yurts are available for rental year-round. Yurts A and B are accessible for people with disabilities. For details on lodging reservations and other information, call our concession at 417-852-1031 or visit their website.
