Celebrate Jan. 1, 2022, by taking a guided hike on a section of the Rock Island Spur and the Katy Trail with the park superintendent. This 1-mile hike will allow participants to enjoy a partial section of the Rock Island and Katy Trail in Windsor.
You will have an opportunity to learn about the Rock Island Spur's creation and operations with the chance to see some wildlife and ask questions. At 1:30 p.m., participants will depart from Windsor's Katy Trail trailhead. GPS coordinates for the trailhead: 38.535939, -93.524355. The degree of difficulty will be easy. You can bring your pet, but make sure you have a leash. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied a parent or guardian.
You can enjoy cold-weather hiking as long as you are prepared:
- Wear a hat.
- Dress in layers.
- Cover your skin.
- Bring a snack and keep your water warm.
- Wear sunscreen.
- Add heat with hand and toe warmers.
