Join thousands of people across the nation by taking part in an annual First Day Hike. Mr. John Homer Bothwell extensively explored Stonyridge, even in the winter, often enjoying campfire food and exploring the wild nature he encountered. Come ring in the new year with a hike on Stonyridge Trail.
This year's hike will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022. Meet at the kiosk near the Stonyridge Trailhead (38.79424937, -93.22190869). Stonyridge Trail is a rugged 0.50-mile loop and is expected to take between 45 minutes and one hour to hike. Leashed four-legged friends are welcome.
While on the trail, you may experience the following: dirt, mud, gravel, shifting rocks, slippery surfaces, rocks, roots and/or downed vegetation, physically challenging obstacles, steep grades and inclines over 10%, bluffs or drop-offs next to the trail, bridges and/or structural crossings, and occasional water over the trail.
You can enjoy-cold weather hiking as long as you are prepared:
- Wear a hat.
- Dress in layers.
- Cover your skin.
- Bring a snack and keep your water warm.
- Wear sunscreen.
- Add heat with hand and toe warmers.
