From June 4 through Sept. 24, join staff of the Missouri State Museum each Tuesday at 2:00p.m for a series of interactive programs exploring various aspects of Missouri's cultural and natural history. Although the main audience is children 6-12 years, the programs will appeal to all ages. Some of these programs will reflect the museum's "Summer of Storytelling" theme. Programs will take place in the museum classroom, which is located in the History Hall (east wing).
June programs are as follows:
June 4: "The Spider Who Changed a Tribe: and other Native American stories
Native Missouri people used stories to tell their history and learn life lessons. Explore these stories and the meanings behind them.
June 11: Creating a Mural -- Thomas Hart Benton and his story of Missouri
Thomas Hart Benton, one of Missouri's greatest painters, told Missour's story using paint, eggs and a brush. Learn about his painting, and practice the art of mural making.
June 18: Ice Age Missouri
Find out what Missouri was like when ice covered the ground, while huge mastodons and giant bears roamed the state.
June 25: Telling your Tale through a Journal
Many people have used journals to write or draw about their day to day life, including Lewis and Clark. Discover some of the ways people have kept journals, and make one to take home with you this summer.
