at Onondaga Cave State Park
Cast your line in the Meramec River or the Blue Heron Millpond. The word "Meramec" comes from an American Indian word for catfish. Along with catfish, there are bluegill, crappie, drum and smallmouth bass. Gigging for hogsuckers is a popular activity on fall evenings. Fishing licenses are required to fish in both the pond and the river.
Fishing licenses and bait are not available at the park. The closest place to purchase a fishing license is located in Bourbon or Cuba, Missouri. You can also purchase a license online through the Missouri Department of Conservation.
