1/1/2024 | Graham Cave State Park | Danville, MO
Ring in the first of the year with a 1.5-mile guided hike at Graham State Park. During this hike, park staff will lead participants to two of the park’s unique glade communities. A glade is a rocky opening with few trees and is usually found in upland woodlands. Glades are home to many uncommon plants and animals. The prickly pear cactus is able to grow on Missouri's glades, including those at Graham Cave, due to the warm and dry environment created by sunlight passing through the sparse tree canopy to the exposed rocks below.
This hike will begin at the visitor center and will use Fern Ridge, Graham Cave and Indian Glade trails. There will also be some off-trail hiking. Hikers can expect to traverse rocky terrain with steep inclines. Participants should wear sturdy, closed-toe hiking shoes or boots; dress for the weather; and bring a full bottle of water. Refreshments will be served at the visitor center after the hike. Pets are welcome on the hike but must be kept on a leash.
This event is free and open to all ages, but registration is required. To register, click here and use the "Choose Date" box to find the listing.
