Join thousands of people across the nation by taking part in an annual First Day Hike on New Year's Day at Knob Noster State Park.
This year's hike will take place at 11 a.m. on the popular Buteo Trail. Participants should meet near the Buteo Trailhead (38.74975, -93.58163), located by the kayak hut and Buteo picnic shelter, across the street from the campground. This guided hike is expected to take between one and one and a half hours and will cover a distance of 1 mile. Leashed four-legged friends are welcome.
Buteo Trail is a 1-mile loop trail that is rated as moderate. On this natural trail surface, participants may encounter dirt, mud, gravel, shifting rock, slippery surfaces, rocks, roots, physically challenging obstacles, stone steps, bridges and water crossing without bridges. The trail circles Lake Buteo and often offers a variety of wildlife viewing.
