Self-Guiding Devil's Icebox Trail Hike

12/18/2020 to 1/3/2021 | Rock Bridge Memorial State Park | Columbia, MO

Take a self-guided hike on the Devil’s Icebox Trail in celebration of the new year. Choose between two ways to learn something about caves and cave animals while hiking the 0.5-mile Devil’s Icebox Trail: 1) read five wayside exhibit signs placed at locations along the trail or 2) print the self-guiding brochure provided. You are welcome to enter the 120-foot-long Rock Bridge, which in winter sometimes has icicles hanging from it. See sinkholes, a spring and “Devil’s Icebox,” where you can look down and see an underground river. If it is not busy – consider COVID-19 – enter there with flashlights and waterproof shoes to explore the 160-foot-long Connor’s Cave, located left, downstream of the entrance. It dead-ends and is large enough for walking upright except for about 10 feet of stooping. The trail is mostly a boardwalk, includes stairs, and is signed one-way for the loop portion.

To register, call 573-449-7402 Tuesday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or email RockBridgeMemorialStatePark@dnr.mo.gov. The directions and self-guiding brochure will be emailed to you.
