Natural Tunnel Hike

3/2/2019 | Bennett Spring State Park | Lebanon, MO

Meet at the Natural Tunnel Trail trailhead for a staff-led adventure. Bring a lunch and water to enjoy at the 296-feet-long natural tunnel destination. The S curve shaped tunnel was formed by Gasconade dolomite and contains a large gravel creek bed. This trail is 7.5-miles and passes through many different habitats, sunny glades, streams and old roads. Several bluffs that have interesting geological features, tiny caves, sheer rock faces and deep overhangs will be viewed along the hike. The wooded area supports abundant wildlife including black bear, deer, chipmunks, many woodland birds and insects, including ticks, so insect repellent is suggested.

The trail consists of natural surface, mud, rocks, steep grades and inclines more than 10%. Bring comfortable hiking shoes, water and a lunch or snack to enjoy on the trip. Estimated time on the trail will depend on participant stops and inquiries along the trail, but it is expected to be no less than four and a half hours.

Hike time: 10 a.m.
