Bison Hike

11/2/2019 | Prairie State Park | Mindenmines, MO

National Bison Day is the first Saturday in November. This day is set aside to honor the bison as our national mammal. This 1-ton beast once roamed the plains and prairies of North America 60 million strong before humans nearly wiped them out. Due to the tremendous turnout we had last year 111 people for one hike  there will be two hikes this year: one at 10 a.m. and another at 1 p.m. So, come out and see the prairie in its autumnal glory.

The hike will be 2 miles long and will traverse uneven terrain. We recommend bringing water, snacks, a hat and sunscreen, and wearing sturdy shoes. Binoculars will be useful for looking at bison and other wildlife we may see. Be sure to dress for the weather, and don't forget your camera!

Preregistration is required. Please call 417-843-6711 for additional information and to register.

 Hike times:
  • 10 a.m. - Noon
  • 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
