National Bison Day is the first Saturday in November. This day is set aside to honor the bison as our National Mammal. This one ton beast once roamed the plains and prairies of North America 60 million strong before we nearly wiped them out. Due to the tremendous response we had last year of 111 people for one hike, there will be two hikes this year. One at 10 a.m. and another one at 1 p.m. Come out on November 2nd for a guided bison hike at 10 a.m. or at 1 p.m. See the prairie in its autmnal glory. Don't forget your cameras! Be prepared for a two mile hike over uneven terrain. Bringing water, snacks, a hat, sunscreen, and wearing sturdy shoes is recommended. Binoculars will be useful in looking at bison as well as other wildlife that we may see. Dress for the weather, the winds can be rather nasty. Please call 417-843-6711 to register.
