Meet at the Natural Tunnel Trail trailhead for a staff-led adventure! Bring a lunch and water to enjoy at the 296-feet long Natural Tunnel destination. The S curve-shaped tunnel was formed by Gasconade dolomite and contains a large gravel creek bed. This trail is 7.5 miles and passes through many different habitats, sunny glades, streams and old roads. Several bluffs with interesting geological features, tiny caves, sheer rock faces and deep overhangs will be viewed along the hike.
The trail consists of natural surface, mud, rocks, steep grades and inclines over 10%. The wooded area supports abundant wildlife including black bear, deer, chipmunks, many woodland birds and insects, including ticks, so insect repellent is suggested. Bring comfortable hiking shoes, water and a lunch or snack to enjoy on the trip. The estimated time on the trail will depend on participant stops and inquiries along the trail, but it is expected to be no less than four and a half hours.
Hike time: 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
