La Veillée

6/9/2018 | Felix Vallé House State Historic Site | Ste. Genevieve, MO

The historic site will host a traditional French "veillée.” This old-style French social gathering has become a summer tradition at the historic home. The historic home will be open for tour lit by candles for the evening event, which features entertainment for all ages. The “veillée” is free and open to the public.

During the day in the Felix Vallé House backyard, John C. Bielik, a paper maker, will be demonstrating the process involved in making of and marbling historic paper.

Visitors to the site that evening will also enjoy seeing Dance Discovery in period costume. Guests that evening will be invited to learn a folk dance and join the troupe of dancers in the grande finale.

Children, as well as adults, will enjoy hearing a French folktale in the garden. Guests will be delighted by the adventures of "Little John and his Animals" and "Fair Margaret," authentic tales from Old Mines, another early French community. Madeleines, an old-style French cookie, other treats and lemonade will be served on the back porch of the home to visitors that evening.
