Summer On-Season Kick-Off

Friday
  • 7 p.m. - Ice Cream Social - Campground Entrance
    Come by the campground entrance as we celebrate the beginning of the summer season at Washington State Park! Meet and greet park staff, learn about the exciting programs and special events at Washington State Park, and make your own ice cream! 
  • 7 p.m. – Campsite Decorating Contest - Campground
    This evening kicks off the campsite decorating contest. Campground guests are invited to decorate their campsite with a patriotic theme. Sites will be judged on creativity and representation of theme. Judging will take place and awards will be determined on Saturday evening after the evening program. 
Saturday
  • 2 p.m. - Petroglyph and Glade Tour – Petroglyph Site
    This guided interpretive walk highlights two of Washington State Park’s unique features. The walk begins with a tour of the ancient Native American rock carvings and then ventures out into to the glade, where visitors will learn about life on this unique landscape. 
  • 4 p.m. - Naturalist Hour – Campground Amphitheater
    Meet at the campground amphitheater for Naturalist Hour! Learn about nature and the Missouri State Parks Explorer Patch Program and the Washington State Park Discovery Patch Program.    
  • 7 p.m. -  Washington State Park: The First 3,000 Years – Campground Amphitheater
    Washington State Park’s history is truly “etched in stone.” Learn about the history of the park and the surrounding area for the first 3,000 years.  
  • 8 p.m. - Campsite Decorating Contest Judging - Campground
    Participating campsites will be judged on creativity and representation of the patriotic theme. After judging, awards will be determined. 
Sunday
  • 2 p.m. - Petroglyph and Glade Tour – Petroglyph Site

  • 4 p.m.  – Wildflower and River Bottom Walk – Thunderbird Lodge
    A short hike along 1,000 Step Trail will give visitors a chance to view a wide variety of plant life and some spring wildflowers. The walk will then lead guests along the edge of the Big River to learn just how important this body of water is to the surrounding area.
  • 7 p.m.  – Special Guest Anthony Clark:  The Singing Storyteller – Campground Amphitheater
    Washington State Park is happy to welcome Anthony Clark, The Singing Storyteller, to our amphitheater. He will present a program weaving information and fun into song for all ages. 
Monday
  • 9 a.m. – Naturalist Hour – Campground Amphitheater
    Meet at the campground amphitheater for Naturalist Hour!  Learn about nature and the Missouri State Parks Explorer Patch Program and the Washington State Park Discovery Patch Program.        

All programs last approximately one hour and are weather and conditions permitting and subject to change.
