155th Anniversary of the Battle of Island Mound

Men of the 1st Kansas Colored Volunteer Infantry (KCVI) and Their Stories: The Battle of Island Mound was only the first of many fights for the men of the 1st KCVI. Come hear about some of the remarkable tales of heroism and sacrifice that followed the Island Mound skirmish. Fresh recruits became battle-hardened soldiers and earned the respect of both their comrades and their enemies.
