Wilderness Wife: Sttler's Fair to First Lady's Feast 1806-1826

3/7/2015 to 3/8/2015 | First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site | St. Charles, MO

Donna Ross, a winner of the Mayhaven Literary Prize for Fiction, will discuss both the early struggle and the better life as she portrays two women. The first is a composite of the hardy farmers’ wives, who brought civilization to the frontier along with their family recipes. The second transports visitors forward to statehood and the world of elegant, well-educated Marguerite DeRiehle McNair. This native-born Missourian and descendant of French aristocracy became the wife of the first governor of the state, Alexander McNair. Together, these two ladies give us a taste of the life abundant in the heartland. This is a free event.
