Hot August Night - Cool Music in the Cave

8/4/2012 | Onondaga Cave State Park | Leasburg, MO

The Onondaga Friends Association will be hosting a small music event in the big room of the cave. “Hot August Night - Cool Music in the Cave” is reminiscent of the old days when Saturday night events were held in the cave to escape the heat of the summer. This event is by advanced reservation and seating is limited to the first 75. Refreshments will be served from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at intermission in the lobby. No food or drink will be allowed in the cave during the event.

Mark Bilyeu, from Springfield, Mo., band Big Smith, draws on his years as a musicologist and entertainer, exploring the life, words and music of the wandering hobo, New Deal employee and people’s music legend Woody Guthrie. This entertaining evening of music and spoken word is sure to please the audience. Woody’s efforts to make Americans aware of their heritage and possibilities through songs like “This Land is Your Land” live on in our collective consciousness.

More information about this event can be found on the Onondaga Friends Association’s website at http://www.onondagafriends.org.  Reservations can be made by calling the park at 573-245-6576, ext. 230. To pay by credit card, visit the above website.

Employees of Onondaga Cave will be donating individual pieces of artwork for a silent auction to be held at this event to raise funds for the association. Artwork can be previewed one month in advance on the Onondaga Friends Association’s website. Auction winners will be able to take the piece home with them after the event.
