Forty pictures hang on the wall of a gas chamber. Among those photos of condemned people with expressions of sadness, pleading or defiance, one consistently stands out above all others. The man's eyes are piercing, menacing and yet strangely vacant. It frequently prompts the question, "Is that man crazy?"
In this “Landing After Hours” presentation, Missouri State Penitentiary history guide, former radio newsman, and “Show Me Murder” podcast host Michael Lear attempts an answer as he presents the story of Claud McGee. Michael Lear spent 19 years in news radio, including as Missourinet news director, and for the past 12 years has been a tour guide at the iconic Missouri State Penitentiary. Now as the host and creator of “Show Me Murder,” he takes deep dives into some of the crimes that have left their mark on our state's history.
The Missouri State Museum's Landing After Hours program is held the first Wednesday of each month at Jefferson Landing State Historic Site's Lohman Building, located at 100 Jefferson St. Doors to the Lohman Building open at 6:30 p.m., and the program begins at 7 p.m. Convenient parking is available in the lot next to the Lohman Building.
