1/1/2024 | Harry S Truman State Park | Warsaw, MO
Join us at Harry S Truman State Park for a guided hike on the first day of the year. We will be hiking the park's 1,000th Mile Trail. Notable for being the 1,000th mile of trail installed in Missouri's state park system, this trail consists mostly of natural surfaces and is considered moderately difficult. The trail begins in a woodland area and then takes hikers down into a glade restoration area where red cedars are being removed. From there, it continues through the glade area, going up a bluff that provides scenic views of Truman Lake. The trail then follows the contours of the slope back down into the woodland before reaching the trailhead, for a total distance of about 1 mile. Along the way, participants may see bald eagles, turkey vultures and glade plants like prickly pear cactus.
This event is free, open to the public, and suitable for all ages. Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash. Participants should dress for the weather and are encouraged to bring water and snacks.
