Trail Improvements Public Meeting and AmeriCorps NCCC Meet and Greet

5/10/2022 | Cuivre River State Park | Troy, MO

The staff at Cuivre River State Park, along with the Missouri State Parks trails coordinator, are thrilled to announce that the park has been awarded an AmeriCorps NCCC crew for a 12-week period this summer. The crew's primary task will be building 2.5 miles of new trail that will serve as a reroute around areas of the Cuivre River Trail South Loop and Connector 2 that are heavily eroded and degraded. These reroutes are designed to be more sustainable, reducing issues with washouts and creating a safer and more enjoyable ride or hike for trail users. Old sections will be decommissioned and allowed to return to a natural state. In total, this project will increase the length of equestrian trail by almost half a mile. After completion of the new trail, the NCCC crew will help clear and maintain the remainder of the park's 42-mile trail system.

Missouri State Parks staff would like to invite trail users to a public meeting at the Lake Shelter on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at 6 p.m. to learn more about this project, and meet the AmeriCorps NCCC crew that will be working with the park throughout the summer. A formal meeting will take place at 6 p.m., with an open-house style meeting afterward.

AmeriCorps NCCC is a full-time service program that covers lodging and travel expenses, allowing young adults to serve on a team and make an impact in communities across the country while gaining valuable leadership skills.
