9/2/2017 | Rock Bridge Memorial State Park | Columbia, MO
Walk on mowed trails through this prairie restoration area with the big bluestem grass (over 6 feet tall), sunflowers in bloom, butterflies and open vistas. See a barn and shed that are still standing and learn about what life was like for families who lived on and farmed the land in the 1930s to 1950s. Learn how park staff manage this area with prescribed fire and invasive plant control. See part of the area that was burned last winter. The 1.75-mile hike will also include views of white oak woodland and many sinkholes. During the short service project, learn how to treat invasive bush honeysuckles.
