Ribbon Cutting and Dedication of the New 1,000th Mile Trail

10/23/2015 | Harry S Truman State Park | Warsaw, MO

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is pleased to host a ribbon cutting ceremony to open the new 1000th Mile Trail at Harry S Truman State Park.  You are cordially invited to attend this dedication event.  The brief ceremony will be held at the trailhead parking area.

The 1-mile loop trail, open to day-use hikers, was built primarily by park staff and will feature the interpretation of ongoing glade restoration. Hikers will be able to see and learn about the restoration of the area, which had been encroached upon by invasive red cedar. The trail will include a scenic overlook with a spectacular view of Truman Lake. At this scenic overlook, it is very common to observe turkey vultures and American bald eagles soaring on the updrafts along the bluff.  It will also be a great place to observe some unique glade plants, such as western wall flower and prickly pear cactus.
