at Battle of Lexington State Historic Site
Visitors to historic Lexington, Missouri, can learn about the town’s rich Civil War history through an audio walking and driving tour created through the University of Missouri Extension Community Arts Program. Battle of Lexington State Historic Site is featured on the tour, which includes a driving tour of the battlefield, allowing guests to learn more about the site and the history that happened there.
University of Missouri faculty and students, Lexington volunteers, and historic site staff created the tour to go with a map of historic areas. Volunteers narrate the tour, which is set to original music composed by an MU music student.
The city of Lexington is the site of one of the largest battles in the western theater. In addition to the battlefield, the city includes about 500 antebellum homes and Wentworth Military Academy. These locations are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
