Plants and Animals

at Route 66 State Park

Excellent opportunities to bicycle, walk, bird-watch or study nature await park visitors. The park area abounds with oak, hickory, river birch, cottonwood and pine trees and is home to a diverse set of plants, as well as fox, raccoons, snakes and wild turkeys.

A variety of more than 40 different bird types have been identified in the park. The small mammal population of squirrel, raccoon and rabbit has a ready supply of food and shelter from the oaks and hickories that dominate the forest trees.
