Dark Sky Program

The August program has been rescheduled from Friday, Aug. 30, to Saturday, Aug. 31, due to predictions of cloudy skies on the 30th.

Thousand Hills State Park is hosting a series of dark sky programs again in 2024. Join park staff and Truman State University faculty at the park’s Point Shelter on one of the dates listed below to explore the stars and sky above you.

Telescopes will be set up at the Point Shelter, but everybody is welcome to telescopes of their own, along with chairs, blankets and binoculars.

Program Dates and Times:
  • Friday, March 22, 8-10 p.m.
  • Friday, April 5, 8-10 p.m.
  • Friday, May 24, 9-11 p.m.
  • Friday, July 5, 9-11 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 31, 8:30-10:30 p.m. (originally scheduled for Aug. 30; moved to the 31st for better viewing opportunities)
  • Friday, Oct. 4, 7:30-9:30 p.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 25, 7-9 p.m.

These programs are free and open to the public, and registration is not required. All programs are weather permitting.
