Located near the beach on Wakonda Lake is an area for picnicking with tables and outdoor grills.

Picnic Shelters

Two picnic shelters, which hold approximately 50 people each, can be reserved for $30 each. They are both accessible to people with disabilities.

  • Shelter 1 is located in the beach day-use area, has electricity and is near the beach concession stand, where there are restrooms available.
  • Shelter 2 has electricity and is located on the east side of the Agate Lake parking area near the boat launch. There is a vault toilet nearby.

A playground is located in the picnic area near the Wakonda Lake beach.

On the following days (actual or observed), staff will not be available and park buildings will be closed: Christmas Eve; Christmas Day; New Year’s Eve; New Year’s Day; Jan. 2, 2023; Martin Luther King Jr. Day; Lincoln’s Birthday; and Presidents Day.

  • 7 a.m. to sunset, daily, year-round

Park Office hours

April 15 through Oct. 31 (On-Season)

  • 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday through Thursday
  • 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday

Nov. 1 through April 14 (Off-Season)

  • Staff are usually available in the park Monday through Friday.
  • The office telephone is monitored for messages during daytime hours.
