Come out to the park’s equestrian day-use area for a celebration of our nocturnal pollinators! There are over 2,000 species of moths in Missouri, and their variety and colors will amaze you. Bring a folding chair and learn a little about the moths you can find near you. After a short program about moths, we will set up special lights to attract moths and other nocturnal insects. Fascinating insects that have shown up to our light in the past include water beetles, treehoppers, longhorned beetles, and even butterflies!
The moths and insects that we count will be added to the official park record, and will be sent in as part of a statewide effort to record species in Missouri State Parks. We find a new species for the park almost every time we do a survey! Will you be the first to discover a species we have not recorded?
Bring flashlights, cameras, and a keen sense of awe and wonder. The equestrian day-use area is located on Frenchman's Bluff Road. Signs reading "Special Event" will direct visitors to the program location.
