Join Park Specialist Anthony Orazio and Park Superintendent Cade Harp on Jan. 1, 2022, for a historical hike and memory scavenger hunt in the forests and glades at Graham Cave State Park. After the event, park staff will serve hot chocolate and other refreshments at the Lower Day-Use Area Pavilion.

The guided historical hike will begin at the Lower Day-Use Area Pavilion and be led by the park specialist. Guests will hike a half mile on the moderately difficult Graham Cave Trail to the cave, where a program will be presented on the history of the cave and the surrounding park. Visitors will then set off on a self-guided scavenger hunt to document survival supplies and resources that hunter-gatherers or early settlers would have utilized in the forests and glades surrounding Graham Cave to ensure the area was suitable human habitat.

Leave No Trace practices will be encouraged during the event. No removal of artifacts or collecting of materials will occur. Instead, participants will document their items with the use of photos, pen and paper, or memory. At the end of the event, they will share their findings with park staff and other participants. 

Participants are reminded to wear layers of clothing for the winter season and comfortable/high top hiking shoes. Restrooms are located near the shelter house, and water will be available in dispensers at the shelter. Graham Cave Trail is not accessible for wheelchair users, but park staff will accommodate visitors as best as possible. This event is free and open to all ages. Visitors 13 or younger should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Leashed pets are welcome.
