In celebration of African American History Month, Washington State Park will host an open house celebration of CCC Company 1743. Company 1743 was an African American Civilian Conservation Corps Company, and the group's work can be seen throughout the park.
Open House: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Park staff will be on hand during the open house at the interpretive center to discuss Company 1743's contribution to the park, give out self-guided tour maps, and display photographs and artifacts of Company 1743. Refreshments will be available.
Guided Hike: 1 p.m. - 2 p.m.
Following the open house, interpretive staff will lead a guided hike along parts of the 1000 Step Trail and point out significant cultural resources built by Company 1743. The hike will be approximately 1 mile over natural surface trail.
Please dress accordingly for this outdoor experience. All events are weather and conditions permitting and subject to change.
