First Day Hike

1/1/2020 | Roaring River State Park | Cassville, MO

Join us as we celebrate a new year in nature! A naturalist will lead a 1.5-mile hike on Devil's Kitchen Trail at Roaring River State Park on New Year’s Day as part of America's State Parks First Day Hikes initiative. First Day Hikes offer a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature and welcome the New Year with friends and family.

Devil’s Kitchen Trail’s name is derived from an odd rock outcrop that formed a room-like enclosure. According to legend, this room, which has since collapsed, was used as a hideout by Civil War guerrillas. The trail showcases other geologic features such as caves, a spring, the geologic bench, and different landscapes and plants associated with them.

This hike is free and open to the public. Please dress appropriately for the weather, wear closed-toe shoes, and bring water and snacks. We will meet at the Devil's Kitchen trailhead at 3 p.m. For more information, call the nature center at 417-847-3742.

Registration is not required but is encouraged. Click here to register.

Hike Time: 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. | Meeting Location: Devil's Kitchen Trailhead
