American Bison: Pieces, Parts and Poop

9/14/2019 | Annie and Abel Van Meter State Park | Miami, MO

Join us at Missouri's American Indian Cultural Center at Annie and Abel Van Meter State Park to see how American Indians used the bison (buffalo) as a "superstore on hooves." The Missouria Indians used items found in their environment to sustain themselves when they were settled on the land that is now Annie and Abel Van Meter State Park. Bison once roamed these prairies in large herds, thus providing the Missouria with ample resources to make food, tools, clothing and other items.

During this program, participants will have the opportunity to match modern-day items with items American Indians made from all parts of the bison, inside and out.
