First Saturday Lecture: 'Kicking Off Two Hundred Years of Hemp in Arrow Rock, Missouri'

10/5/2019 | Arrow Rock State Historic Site | Arrow Rock, MO

Join us for a free lecture about hemp, presented by local historian and educator Chris W. Nelson.

In August 2018, the Missouri government passed HB 2034, a law that exempts industrial hemp from the definition of marijuana and the list of controlled substances, and creates an Industrial Hemp Pilot Program to be implemented by the Missouri Department of Agriculture.

Nelson will speak about the history of hemp, its impact on the 19th-century economy of central Missouri, and ongoing research into the controversial crop’s potential for commercial and industrial uses well beyond its notorious use as a recreational drug.
