Tales from the Civilian Conservation Corps

7/5/2018 | Cuivre River State Park | Troy, MO

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was organized during the Great Depression as part of Roosevelt's New Deal.  Young, unmarried men between the ages of 17-28 years old could join and earn money for their families, while gaining valuable skills in trades like carpentry or masonry.  Civilian Conservation Corps Company 3771 was organized in 1935 outside of Troy, in what would later become Cuivre River State Park.  The CCC built roads, bridges, picnic shelters and group camps - many of the structures that you still see standing today.

Join us at the visitor center as we welcome special guest speaker Mike Tiesing, who will tell tales from CCC Company 3771. Artifacts and photos will be on display during the program.
