8/4/2018 | Cuivre River State Park | Troy, MO
Come out to the park amphitheater for a celebration of our nocturnal pollinators! Moths are like butterflies of the night, and their variety and colors will amaze you. Join us as we welcome enthusiasts in the field of all things "mothy," Chrissy McClarren and Andrew Reago. After a short program about moths, they will set up black lights and ultra-bright mercury vapor lights to attract moths and other nocturnal insects. The moths and insects that we count will be added to the official park record, and will be sent in as part of a statewide effort to record species in Missouri State Parks.
Moth species come out at different times during the year, so we will conduct three separate surveys over the course of the summer and fall. There will be something different to see at every survey! Other fascinating insects may show up to our light, such as water beetles, treehoppers, longhorned beetles and sometimes even butterflies! Bring flashlights, cameras and a keen sense of awe and wonder.
As always, this event is free and open to the public. If you would like more information on this event, please call the park office at 636-528-7247.
