1/1/2018 | Thousand Hills State Park | Kirksville, MO
Due to cold temperatures, this hike has been canceled.
Ring in the New Year with a walk on the wild side! We will be kicking off 2018 with a leisurely hike on Forest Lake Trail. This trail is 8 feet wide, paved and ADA accessible, making for gentle slopes in an otherwise rugged landscape. We will hike along the shore of Forest Lake and through a thick pine grove to Campground 2 before making a return trip. This hike will be approximately 1 mile and last one hour.
Barring snow or ice on the trail, this hike will be stroller and wheelchair friendly, and will not require special footwear. Make sure to wear weather-appropriate clothing, and feel free to bring any water or snacks that you may want. Consider packing binoculars, if you have them, as there is a chance of seeing bald eagles, along with unique waterfowl and other wildlife. The park will have some binoculars available for visitors to borrow on the hike if needed. We hope to see you there!
Hike Time: 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.
Meeting location: Forest Lake Trail trailhead in the parking lot of the dining lodge
This hike is part of a national First Day Hikes initiative by America's State Parks. For more information and a list of other First Day Hikes in Missouri State Parks, click here.
