1/1/2018 | Roaring River State Park | Cassville, MO
Due to cold temperatures, this hike has been canceled.
Join us as we celebrate a new year in nature! New Year’s Day, Roaring River State Park will be hosting a guided 1.5-mile hike on Devil's Kitchen Trail, a moderately-difficult trail. This event offers individuals and families an opportunity to begin the New Year by rejuvenating and connecting with the outdoors to exercise, enjoy nature and welcome the New Year with friends and family.
Devil’s Kitchen Trail’s name is derived from an odd rock outcrop that formed a room-like enclosure. According to legend, this room, which has since collapsed, was used as a hideout by Civil War guerrillas. This trail showcases other geologic features, such as caves, a spring, the geologic bench and different landscapes and plants associated with them.
Dress appropriately for the weather and bring water and snacks.
Hike time: 9 a.m.
Meeting Location: Devil's Kitchen Trail trailhead across from the CCC Lodge
This hike is part of a national First Day Hikes initiative by America's State Parks. For more information and a list of other First Day Hikes in Missouri State Parks, click here.
