Dutch Oven Cooking Demonstration - Rescheduled

8/19/2017 | Cuivre River State Park | Troy, MO

This event has been rescheduled from the original date of July 22 to Aug. 19.

The Dutch oven, as it is known, was once called the black pot or cooking cauldron, and is a rich part of our heritage. Early settlers used the cast iron black pots to cook everything from biscuits to stews. Join park staff as we demonstrate a few delicious dishes you can make in a Dutch oven while on your camping trip. Camping doesn't mean hot dogs and burgers anymore!

The demonstration will take place at the new Hilltop Shelter on the main park road just past the entrance to the boat launch. Visitors will get tips on cooking with a Dutch oven and will be able to sample some recipes like Dutch oven pizza, monkeybread, and wild blackberry cobbler (from native Missouri blackberries).

This program is free and open to the public. For questions about the event, call the park office at 636-528-7247.
