Rock Bridge Renew Stream Monitoring and Cleanup

10/22/2016 | Rock Bridge Memorial State Park | Columbia, MO

Everyone is invited to help take care of the park and its stream life by taking part in this event, which is co-sponsored by the park, Friends of Rock Bridge Memorial State Park, Boone County Stormwater Management and Missouri Stream Teams.

Volunteers will partner with experienced Stream Team volunteers for a Stream Monitoring Blitz to catch and identify aquatic insects, recording valuable data about the health of streams in the Bonne Femme watershed. Following that, you can choose to pick up litter along Highway 163, cut or pull invasive plants or remove old fence wire. A team leader will guide you to the location within the park and show you what to do.

Free pizza will be provided to volunteers. Meet a Devil’s Icebox parking lot. Bring something to drink and wear weather –appropriate clothing and shoes. Participants in the Stream Monitoring Blitz should wear boots or other water-appropriate shoes. For the cleanup, tools, bags, vests, gloves, etc. will be provided, but you may want to bring your own leather gloves.

Event times:
  • Stream Monitoring Blitz: 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Cleanup: 9:30 a.m. to noon
  • Noon: Pizza
