Memorial Day Weekend Interpretive Events

Below is a list of activities going on Memorial Day weekend at the park:

Friday:

7-8 p.m., Amphitheater:  “Get to Know Washington State Park”  - Join park staff for a town hall style meeting to get to know them and the park. You ask the questions, they will have the answers. This program will also include things you can do to make your camping experience safer for you and those around you, and delicious fresh popcorn!

Saturday:

Noon-1 p.m., Petroglyph Site:  Petroglyph/Glade Tour – This guided interpretive walk highlights two of Washington State Park’s unique features. The walk begins with a tour of the ancient Native American rock carvings and will then venture out to the glade, where visitors will learn about life on this unique landscape.

2-3 p.m., Amphitheater: Recycled Firefly Craft – Make your very own firefly friend out of recycled soda bottles. Come back to the Night Lights program at 8 p.m. to give your fireflies a special glow.

4-5 p.m., Thunderbird Lodge: River Bottom Walk – A short hike along 1,000 Step Trail will give guests the chance to view a wide variety of plant life and learn about the history of the park and the young men who built it. The walk will then lead guests along the edge of the Big River to learn just how important this body of water is to the area around it.

8-9 p.m., Amphitheater: “Night Lights” – Learn all about the interesting little critters that light up the campground a night and how you can make small changes to guarantee those lights will be seen form many more years to come. Don’t forget to bring your firefly friend to get their glow!
