Night Skies over Babler

4/25/2015 | Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park | Wildwood, MO

In celebration of national Astronomy Day, come enjoy the night skies at the park. The evening will kick off with a “virtual tour” of the Earth’s orbit with a fun, interpretive program at the visitor center.

After the program, members of the St. Louis Astronomical Society will set up telescopes at the monument area for viewing the sky. Society members will be offering instruction on how to identify the big dipper, the north star and constellations such as Leo the lion, Corvus the crow and Hydra the snake. The moon, Jupiter and Venus will be viewed through telescopes.

This event is three days after the peak of the Lyrid meteor shower. Lyrids are left over material from the Comet C/1861 and one to five meteors per hour may be seen. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and binoculars. If you have a telescope, bring that as well. Click here to read the news release.
