Outdoor Classroom: Native Plants

5/23/2025 to 10/24/2025 | Washington State Park | De Soto, MO

Join us on the fourth Friday of each month for a fun outdoor learning experience! This series will cover both natural and cultural topics, and some programs will feature guest presenters. Each session will take place at the campground amphitheater at 2 p.m. These events are free and open to the public, and there is no need to register.

Series Schedule:

May 23: Native Plants

Learn about the importance of native plants and how you can incorporate more natives into your garden. Take the opportunity to plant native seeds in a small pot to bring home with you!

June 27: Nature Paint Party

Join park staff for a paint party! Follow the interpreter's step-by-step tutorial to create a unique nature-inspired art piece to bring home with you.

July 25: Technical Backpacking

Listen to accounts from an avid hiker and backpacker. Get an introduction to technical backpacking and tips on gear selection, route planning and backwoods survival.

Aug. 22: Wildlife Rehabilitation

Learn about the importance of wildlife rehabilitation and how you can support local rehabilitation efforts!

Sept. 26: Petroglyph Research

Listen to a presentation about the petroglyphs at Washington State Park and the connections between this site and other Native American archaeological sites.

Oct. 24: The Language of Animals

Learn about different forms of communication used in the animal kingdom.
