S’mores and Cicadas

6/15/2024 | Big Sugar Creek State Park | Pineville, MO

They're here! After spending more than a decade underground, the cicadas of Brood XIX are emerging across the Ozarks. These insects emerge every 13 years along with the annual cicadas that emerge every year. Join us at Big Sugar Creek State Park to celebrate and learn more about these amazing insects!

A Roaring River State Park naturalist will give a brief presentation on periodical and annual cicadas. Then, we’ll gather around the fire pit to make some delicious s'mores! S'mores materials will be provided. Stick around as the sun sets to listen to the cicadas sing their age-old songs.

We will meet in the parking lot area of Big Sugar Creek State Park. Seating is not available at the park, so please bring your own. You should also consider bringing insect repellent and flashlights or lanterns.

This event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
