This lecture is titled “United We Stand: Bingham’s Election Series as an Argument for the Great American Experiment in Democracy.” George Caleb Bingham’s trio of election paintings completed between 1852 and 1855 are a record of the democratic processes in 19th century America. Art historian Joan Stack, Ph.D., Curator of Art Collections at the State Historical Society of Missouri and a national authority on Bingham will discuss the importance of these works to the historical record. The lecture is free and open to the public.
