Waste Free at Washington State Park

 Friday
  • 7 p.m. — Recycling Game — Campground Amphitheater
    Join park staff for a fun and educational game all about recycling. This game will kick-off the Waste Free at Washington State Park weekend of events, all dedicated to reducing, reusing and recycling.
Saturday
  • 9 a.m. — Noon — Electronics Recycling Event with MRC — Memorial Picnic Site
    Washington State Park, co-sponsoring with the Friends of Washington State Park, will host an electronics recycling event. This event will be conducted by the Midwest Recycling Center (MRC).  All campers, day users and members of the public are invited to bring in their old electronics for recycling.  MRC charges the following fees for select items:  CRT monitors ($5 each), CRT TVs 26" or less ($30 each), CRT TVs 27" or greater ($50), wood console and true big screen/projection TVs ($50 each), LED/LCD/plasma TVs ($20 each) and any Freon containing unit ($10 each).  All other qualifying electronic items are recycled for free. The goal is to collect 7,000 pounds of recycled electronics.
  • 2 p.m. — Pickup at the Petro (Tour) — Petroglyph Site
    Park interpretive staff will lead a tour of the petroglyph site and accompanying glade as well as a "pickup" activity, where visitors pick up trash on the tour.  Learn about the cultural and natural importance of this site while helping to keep it clean!
  • 4 p.m. — Nature Hour — Big River Day-Use Area
    Nature has some amazing recyclers - especially those in the water!  Join park interpretive staff to learn about aquatic recyclers at the Big River Day-Use Area water access.
  • 7 p.m. — Nature's Recycling Heroes — Campground Amphitheater
    Superheroes of nature are also super recyclers!  Learn about how nature's creatures recycle every day as part of their survival.
Sunday
  •  9 a.m. — Nature Hour — Campground Amphitheater
    Do you know how to turn trash to treasure?  Do you want to get hands-on experience with upcycling and recycling? Join park interpretive staff in creating your own recycled craft at this nature hour.
