1/1/2018 | Stockton State Park | Dadeville, MO
The 1.75-mile Umber Ridge Trail has a natural surface with a gentle terrain so it is easy to hike. The area is typical of the western Ozarks, where the prairie meets the woodlands. The trail travels along a west-facing slope offering several vistas of Stockton Lake before turning and traveling through white oak woodlands on an east-facing slope. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes or boots. Several bald eagles take up residence in the park this time of year, so guests may want to bring binoculars along on the hike.
Hike time: 1 p.m.
Meeting Location: Umber Ridge Trail Trailhead
(just off Highway 215 near the beach)
This hike is part of a national First Day Hikes initiative by America's State Parks. For more information and a list of other First Day Hikes in Missouri State Parks, click here.
