8/13/2016 | Onondaga Cave State Park | Leasburg, MO
Onondaga Friends Association will be offering an evening of Mindfulness Meditation in Onondaga Cave. This is a rare opportunity to sit in the womb of mother earth with Maureen Hall, the guiding meditation teacher at Inspiration Center Sangha and facilitator of the mindfulness-based stress reduction classes offered at Missouri University of Science and Technology (MS&T) in Rolla since 2010. She has trained with some of the best meditation teachers in the United States, including Jack Kornfield, Joseph Goldstein, Gina Sharpe, Venerable Pannavati and Venerable Pannadipa.
The constant temperature in the cave is 57 degrees with 98% humidity. Everyone should layer up (hat and gloves too), bring a blanket and a cushion or pillow; metal folding chairs are provided. Zafus and zabutons (floor cushions) are not recommended due to the dampness in the cave; however if you choose to bring your cushion, please be sure to bring something to protect it from the moisture, as the area where you will be seated is usually wet. Snacks and beverages will be provided in the visitor center during breaks but will not be allowed in the cave.
To register for the retreat, send your name, email address, a contact phone number and your check for $30, made out to “OFA” to: Lorian Moore, C/O Onondaga Friends Association, 7556 Highway H, Leasburg, MO 65535.
The retreat will conclude at midnight. If you wish to camp in the park, reservations can be made by calling 1-877-422-6766 from 7 a.m. - 10 p.m. daily, or you can make your camping reservation online.
