6/27/2015 | Hawn State Park | Ste. Genevieve, MO
Come to the park to celebrate the only flying mammal – the bat! The evening begins with bat games, activities and crafts from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. At 7 p.m., special guest Kristen Alvey-Mudd, from Missouri Bat Census, will present a program featuring live Missouri bats that you can see up close! At 8:30 p.m., the bat researchers will set up a mist net along Pickle Creek by the picnic shelter to net bats in the park. See the bats up close as we document what bats call Hawn State Park home. Learn about what makes bats special, why they are important to us and why they are in more danger now than ever before. This rare opportunity is made possible by Missouri State Parks, the Missouri Department of Conservation and Missouri Bat Census.
As always, this event is free and open to the public. All events will take place in or near the picnic shelter, except the bat program by Kirsten Alvey-Mudd, which will take place at the park’s amphitheater in the campground. Participants staying for the mist netting activity may want to bring a flashlight.
Event times: 4 p.m. - 10 p.m.
This event is being held in conjunction with the national Great American Campout, sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation. Click here for more information and to see a list of events being held in Missouri State Parks.
