Civil War Encampment and Storytelling Program

11/15/2025 | Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site | New Madrid, MO

Join us at Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site on Nov. 15 for our Civil War encampment and storytelling program.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., members of the Turner Brigade be on-site portraying units of the Missouri volunteers and civilians of the Civil War period. Visitors will be able to walk through the encampment and see a variety of events and scenarios, like infantry doing drills as soldiers go about their daily activities. They will also get to interact with soldiers and civilians. Throughout the event, guests will gain a better understanding of what life in Missouri was like during the Civil War.

From 1:30-2:30 p.m., storyteller Paul Norfolk will entertain guests with stories from "Aesop's Fables." Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket for seating.

Both the encampment and the storytelling program are free and open to the public. There is no need to register.
