Sips, Stars and Meteors

Guests are invited to take part in a special overnight camping opportunity to view the Perseid meteor shower under a dark sky at Washington State Park on Friday, Aug. 12. For this overnight viewing event, guests will camp out in the park’s Big River Day-Use Area, near Shelter #2. From 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., park interpretive staff will present meteor-themed activities, and Edg-Clif Vineyard of Potosi, Missouri, will provide limited free sampling to adults 21 and over. The area will have designated camping sites, with amenities including pit latrine restrooms, potable water and group fire pits. 

This camping area is for tents only. Each site can accommodate up to six people and parking for one vehicle. No individual campfires, RVs or generators will be allowed. The area has no flush toilets or electricity. Check-out from the day-use area is 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13.
