8/12/2021 | Annie and Abel Van Meter State Park | Miami, MO
“Look up at the night sky. Is that a UFO? Aliens? Airplanes?”
No, it's a meteor shower, and the staff at Annie and Abel Van Meter State Park invites you to come out to the park to view the 2021 Perseid meteor shower on Aug. 12.
To get the best experience out of this event, it is recommended that you bring a blanket or similar item to lie on, a thermos full of your favorite warm drink, bug spray, and weather-appropriate clothing. Prior to the viewing session, the park naturalist will provide a brief introduction to astronomy viewing.
Guests should plan on arriving at the viewing location prior to the event’s 8 p.m. start time, so as to not disturb other visitors’ experiences with incoming traffic. This is a "dark sky” viewing event – we ask that you use as little "harsh" light as possible. A flashlight with a red cellphone lens covering is highly recommended. If you will be using a cellphone as your light source, please dim the brightness, so as to not distract other viewers.
Event Time: 8 p.m. - midnight
